might be to show students how much tuition THEY waste when they don't hand in assignments, don't attend class, fail class etc and have it tabulate over the time it takes to complete their degree. A final statement such as "Congratulations! You successfully wasted $24,000 in tuition which, had you done all of your work and passed your classes, would have meant you could have purchased (fill in blank), but instead you now have loans to pay back!"

Near-drowning of Okanagan College international student
As a point of clarification, I am pleased to report that the incident involving an international student at Okanagan College last month was a near-drowning, not a drowning. While the situation was certainly serious, the student survived and is now back home in Korea where he is expected to make a full recovery. This does not minimize the importance of water safety for international students however, something that Okanagan College takes very seriously. We already have strict rules in place concerning all college events that take place on or near the water. In this instance, it was not a college-run activity and the student and friends were at the beach on their own free time on a Friday evening. We are placing even more emphasis on a water safety orientation as a result of this incident, however, as it is a reality that many international students do not come to Canada equipped with the awareness and knowledge of the potential risks associated with being in or near the water.
