CFS policy paper calls for national PSE act

October 4, 2010

In a policy paper released yesterday, the Canadian Federation of Students recommends the federal government implement a national Post-Secondary Education Act, modeled after the principles of the Canada Health Act. The student organization also calls for $10-million funding increase to Statistics Canada's branch for the collection and analysis of PSE statistics. The paper recommends increasing the value and number of non-repayable grants by redirecting funds allocated to education-related tax credits and saving schemes to the Canada Student Grants Program. The CFS calls on Ottawa to remove the funding cap on increases to the Post-Secondary Student Support Program, and to increase the number of Canada Graduate Scholarships to 3,000.
