151 arrested in student protest in Gatineau

April 20, 2012

Police used pepper spray on student demonstrators and arrested 151 individuals at the Université du Québec en Outaouais Thursday during a third day of confrontation in Quebec's ongoing student protests over planned tuition fee increases. The protesters were released but the majority will face serious charges, including acts of criminal mischief and illegal occupation. The arrests came one day after 161 protesters were arrested for blocking the road near UQO. Wednesday's incident was the subject of a statement issued by the Canadian Federation of Students in which it denounced the breach of freedom of assembly at UQO.
