“We kind of hit rock-bottom”: RSU tries to regain students’ trust

March 14, 2019

Ryerson University’s Student Union is working to rebrand and regain student trust after allegations of misspendingroiled the governing body earlier this year. CBC reports that former RSU President Ram Ganesh came under fire amidst revelations of a $250K credit card bill that included an array of questionable expenditures. “We kind of hit rock-bottom,” said recently-elected President Maklane deWever. “I think hopefully if we take the right steps, we'll regain some of that trust.” deWever added that the union has uploaded all of its audited financial statements from the past decade to the RSU’s website in an effort to increase financial transparency, and that it plans to hire a general manager and publish quarterly financial updates in the future. CBC (ON)
