Academics question York U's handling of Israel/Palestine conference

April 12, 2010

York University is facing new charges from academics over its handling of the Israel/Palestine conference last summer. Event organizers say senior officials overstepped the boundaries of academic freedom by taking actions the organizers claim interfered in the conference planning, by suggesting the inclusion of new speakers and the relocation of the event to avoid a political storm of "tsunami proportions." A York U law professor says a new report reviewing the conference damages the organizers' reputations by questioning their academic credentials to hold the conference and does not address their concerns.
