After accidentally accepting 500 applicants, YorkU apologizes

January 15, 2016

York University is apologizing after it sent an email to 500 applicants mistakenly telling them they had been admitted. YorkU’s Joanne Rider blamed a “processing error” for the emails, saying that the messages were sent “immediately after the university had sent email to acknowledge their applications had been received.” Applicants were sent the incorrect emails on Monday—corrections were sent out the following day. “We really empathize that there’s a small group of students that got this message, and they get anxious and excited, and so we did do the outreach and tried to do it as quickly as possible,” said YorkU’s Jock Phippen, Director of Student Recruitment and Admission.
