BC students interested in PSE face barriers in access

November 4, 2008

According to a new report from the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation, the majority of BC high school graduates who have not attended PSE 2 years following high school would like to do so, but face a number of access barriers. These include lack of adequate savings, lack of academic engagement, and inaccurate information about the cost of further studies. One project that may remove these barriers is Advancement Via Individual Determination, which involves 1,500 BC students in grades 9 to 12. The program prepares academically average students for PSE through advanced post-secondary preparatory classes. CMSF News Release | Globe and Mail | Read the full report
