CBC investigates failure, bankruptcy of IBEW College

July 9, 2021
A new article from CBC Investigates examines the failure and bankruptcy of IBEW College, a multi-million-dollar college by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers originally announced in 2015. CBC Producer Rob Antle reports that the College was touted as a state-of-the-art training centre that would mold the next generation of union electricians, but that the provincial government had never approved its registration as a private postsecondary education provider nor authorized it to offer programs due to a poor labour market outlook. Several lawsuits were filed on behalf of former employees of the college and members of the union, and IBEW College Inc collapsed in bankruptcy in 2020. The college building is reportedly now listed for sale online. CBC (NL)
