The Canadian Federation of Students has announced that it is pleased to see its recommendations included in the federal government’s recent report on Taking Action to End Violence Against Young Women and Girls in Canada. A CFS release adds that the organization will now focus on making sure that the report’s recommendations are acted upon without delay. The report’s recommendations include a call for jurisdictions to discuss mandatory requirements for Canadian postsecondary institutions to implement stand-alone sexual assault policies, and to provide sexual violence intervention and sensitivity training for all students and staff at orientation. “The release of this report is an important step towards action addressing gender-based violence on campuses and in communities across Canada,” said CFS National Chairperson Bilan Arte.
