Colleges Embrace Environmentalism

Colleges and universities across the US are embracing green campuses and energy-efficient classrooms, and the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's conference provided a spectacular cross-section. "The environment is hot, and not just as a research topic." NYU plans to purchase 118 million kw of wind power. Arizona State U is opening a new School of Sustainability. UC Berkeley has committed to an 80% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Harvard has installed low-flow toilets. One of the most popular projects is the "green roof."
