Ernie the Ryerson Hot-Dog Vendor
November 8, 2006
The US Chronicle of Higher Education reports that a philanthropic hot-dog vendor at Toronto's Ryerson University was the subject of a campus musical last month. Nicknamed for the Sesame-Street character he represents, Ernie has set aside a day's profit every year since 1982 to finance student scholarships. Last year, approaching age 80, Ernie retired -- but he will be remembered thanks to retired English professor Nelles Van Loon, who wrote Hot Dog - The Musical.
