Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations vice-chief resigns from FNUC board

Lyle Whitefish, the board of governors chair at the First Nations University of Canada, has stepped down.Whitefish was also the vice-chief of the Federation ofSaskatchewan Indian Nations responsible for education.It has been suggested that FNUC’s close relationship with politicians might infringe on academic freedom at the institution and Whitefish hopes that his resignation will help the university attain autonomy.FNUC is currently on probation with the AUCC, pending changes to be made to the school’s governance.CBC
