Former law dean sues Lakehead

November 23, 2018

Angelique Eaglewoman, the Indigenous lawyer who stepped down as Dean of Lakehead University’s law school, is suing the university for racial discrimination. According to the Ottawa Citizen, a statement of claim alleges that Lakehead undermined Eaglewoman’s authority when it placed a consultant between her and her direct supervisor. The statement adds that Eaglewoman also faced hostility and opposition from some within the university, and that her ability to lead the law school was repeatedly undermined by senior administrators who made decisions without consulting her. Lakehead told CBC that it has received Eaglewoman’s statement of claim, but added that it will not comment on litigation or personnel matters. CBC reports that none of the allegations have been tried in court. Ottawa Citizen CBC | APTN
