Instructors sign letter calling on QC to breathe new life into French cégeps

December 1, 2020
A group of instructors in French-language cégeps have signed a letter published in the Journal de Montréal expressing concern about the growing prevalence of English higher education in the province. The instructors argue that Dawson College’s expansion in Bill 66 is “another sign of the growing influence of English in higher education in Quebec,” reports the Montréal Gazette. Instructors also expressed concern about the impact that the growing popularity of English-language cégeps has on perceptions of the quality of a French language education, and called on the government to rebalance the situation.
