April 27, 2022
North Island College has celebrated the official opening of Q̓ə pix ʔidaʔas, its new Indigenous Gathering Place. The space is located at NIC’s Campbell River campus and the building’s design is representative of a traditional drum. The gathering place will provide a safe space for people to come together and learn, and will house the Elders in Residence program, a community room, and space for the delivery of language courses and other programming. “ I’m looking forward to being in this beautiful and spiritual space with students,” said NIC Elder in Residence June Johnson, who is a member of the Wei Wai Kai First Nation.
