OCUFA says more full-time faculty required to ensure quality

October 15, 2009

A new report from the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations states that Ontario needs to hire more university faculty in order to maintain the quality of higher education. The report finds that Ontario lags behind other Canadian jurisdictions and the US in its student-to-faculty ratio, considered a key indicator of educational quality. The study also finds that faculty hiring in the province has not kept up with rising student enrolment, and that universities have not met their hiring targets as outlined in their Multi-Year Accountability Agreements with the provincial government.
