Ohio State U stops deleting negative comments on Facebook page

April 14, 2009

Last week, officials at Ohio State University announced they would stop deleting posts on its Facebook page that are critical of the institution. Earlier this month, the university removed comments by a graduate student questioning the school president's role on the board of an energy company criticized by environmentalists, and subsequently blocked all posts. An Ohio State U spokesman said the response was not appropriate. Observers note that a school may do more harm to its image by overreacting to criticism instead of allowing open debate on sites like Facebook.
