RSEQ announces university sports program cancellation

September 16, 2020
Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) has announced that “sanctioned sports programming” for universities has been cancelled until December 31 due to COVID-19 precautions. While elementary, secondary, and CEGEP sports will resume, RSEQ says that their university sector “is based primarily on the regional alert system, which may limit the participation of universities, even if said institutions effectively manage health-and-safety best practices.” RSEQ also evaluated if institutions would be able to provide a stable framework for athletes, coaches, and officials, as well as volunteers and supporters. Their decision was to allow university students to participate in cross-country, golf, and soccer activities involving two or more teams, but not permit inter-team activities in rugby or football.  RSEQ  | Global News (CP)  (QC)
