July 8, 2021
Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Carlton Trail College, and Conestoga College have partnered to offer a free applied certificate in welding to people from under-represented groups such as women, Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities. Students in the program will learn basic welding skills, such as operating welding equipment, shop safety, cutting processes, and different types of welding. They will also complete five weeks of career skills training as well as an eight-week work placement. “Training under-represented populations in a skilled trade, along with providing extensive employability skills training and a paid work placement, will add tremendous value to workforce engagement within the province,” said Carlton Trail President Shelley Romanyszyn-Cross.
