St Clair opens centre for victims of child abuse

October 26, 2018

A new centre for victims of child abuse has opened at St Clair College’s Anthony P Toldo Centre for Health Sciences, reports CBC. The Windsor Essex Child/Youth Advocacy Centre will provide a space for victims to make statements for police and aid workers in a single location. "Previously, before we developed this WECYAC model in the Windsor-Essex community, children who had experienced abuse had to travel all around the community, talking to multiple different individuals, disclosing their abuse and ultimately re-victimizing themselves and re-traumatizing themselves," said Executive Director Michelle Oake. Several police agencies are partnered with the Centre, which ran a pilot project out of Windsor Regional Hospital before moving to St Clair, CBC adds. CBC
