StatsCan graduation data disputed by SK government

November 28, 2014

The Saskatchewan government is questioning some recent figures from Statistics Canada that suggest SK saw a 6.6% decline in PSE graduations from 2011 to 2012—the largest drop in Canada. According to SK’s Advanced Education Ministry, PSE graduations increased 2.8% between 2011-12 and 2012-13. The StatsCan data is incomplete and based on a snapshot of the numbers, rather than actual full-year enrolment numbers, asserts the Ministry. In an email to CBC, the Ministry stated, “the StatsCanada data is limited … it misses Aboriginal institutions, private vocational schools, skills training and apprenticeship.” CBC
