Trend in universities renaming women's studies programs

January 25, 2010

Over the years, a number of universities in Canada have rebranded their women's studies program as some combination of women's, gender, sexuality, and social justice studies, most recently at Queen's University and Simon Fraser University. Proponents of the name change argue that women's studies has evolved, and today the discipline includes discussions of masculinity, gender ambiguities, sexuality, race, class, and social justice.
