ON tuition freeze receives calls for repeal, extension

November 24, 2022
As the tuition freeze for domestic students in Ontario approaches its expiration date, university presidents are calling for an end to the freeze. Global News reports that Queen’s University Principal Patrick Deane is lobbying the Government of Ontario to end the freeze, and the Queen’s Journal adds that he is joined by the Council of Ontario Universities and presidents of other universities. The move reportedly stems from issues with financial planning due to stagnant government grants and tuition fees, rising costs, and inflation. Several students and student leaders shared their concerns about the impact of the freeze on international students and out of province students and the impact of a tuition increase on all students through the Global News, the Queen’s Journal, and the Muskoka Region.
