uAlberta offers voluntary retirement packages to trim budget shortfall

January 6, 2010

In an effort to reduce its anticipated $59-million shortfall, the University of Alberta is offering early retirement packages to experienced employees. According to an e-mail sent to university employees last month, the offer is being made to all workers who will be 55 or older as of July 31 and who have at least 10 years of steady employment at uAlberta. Other options the institution is exploring to reduce the shortfall are student fees increases, furlough days, and salary reductions. Edmonton Journal
