UC San Diego sends congratulations to rejected applicants

On Monday, all 28,000 applicants to the University of California San Diego who had been rejected received an e-mail congratulating them on their acceptance, only to get another message admitting there was a mistake. The university's admissions director says the incident was an "administrative error," and that the wrong database was accessed. In December, the Kellogg School of Management at Illinois-based Northwestern University mistakenly sent out acceptance e-mails to about 50 rejected applicants. LA Times
