UCalgary launches Suicide Awareness and Prevention Framework

November 18, 2020
The University of Calgary is launching a Suicide Awareness and Prevention Framework to help students who are struggling. The student-focused framework uses a holistic approach to meet the needs of at-risk students who might otherwise fall through the cracks of the health care system. The framework’s action plan includes initiatives such as educating the campus community, identifying at-risk students, and transitioning students smoothly to treatment and return to campus. “Suicide deaths for individuals under the care of health systems are preventable,” says Debbie Bruckner, UCalgary senior director of student wellness, access, and support. “Through our innovative Suicide Awareness and Prevention Framework, we are focused on reducing risk, ensuring effective suicide prevention and intervention strategies and promoting healing and compassion across our campus.” UCalgary (AB)
