UCalgary pauses bachelor’s program in oil and gas engineering

July 8, 2021
The University of Calgary will be pausing its bachelor’s program in oil and gas engineering due to lower demand and the changing energy landscape, reports CBC. While UCalgary reportedly does not have plans to abandon the program, it has reviewed the program and gained approval from the Government of Alberta to suspend it. Arin Sen, head of UCalgary’s department of chemical and petroleum engineering, explained that interest in other forms of energy has resulted in growth for the energy engineering program. Students currently in the oil and gas engineering program will still be able to complete their studies, and other students who have these interests can still pursue them through other paths at UCalgary.
