UoGuelph students approve levy for athletics upgrades

April 1, 2009

Over half of University of Guelph students who participated in a referendum last month voted in favour of a $38 fee for full-time students and a $19 fee for part-timers to support new multipurpose athletics and fitness facilities. Should enrolment at the university stay the same for the next 30 years, the fees will generate $75 million, but UoGuelph will still require loans, private donations, and government grants to cover the cost of the project, whose focus is on 4 multipurpose fields with synthetic turf and the improvement and expansion of the 52-year-old W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre. Guelph Mercury
