UOttawa opens wellness centre to address unique, underreported issues afflicting musicians

October 9, 2019

The University of Ottawa has officially launched a new wellness centre to address the often-underreported health needs of musicians and music professionals. Led by the university's School of Music and Piano Pedagogy Research Lab, the centre will help musicians with everything from repetitive stress injuries to hearing loss and performance anxiety. The centre will be open to university students, professors, and members of the public. Centre Director Gilles Comeau notes that physical pain or mental anguish has been considered a taboo subject for many years, and that addressing them and breaking down the stigma could have a major impact on musicians’ lives.
