February 28, 2014

A group of US research universities, with several industry and government partners, have launched a $320-million Digital Lab for Manufacturing (Digital Lab), which will aim to advance digital manufacturing and design in the US. The Chicago-based lab will “apply cutting-edge technologies to reduce the time and cost of manufacturing, strengthen the capabilities of the US supply chain, and reduce acquisition costs for the Department of Defense, which is supplying the initial funding.” The federal government is providing $70 million, and the remaining $250 million will come from the other industry, academia, government and community partners.
