uToronto TAs call on Ontario chapter president to resign

March 2, 2009

Members of CUPE 3902, which represents contract instructional staff at the University of Toronto, are urging CUPE Ontario president Sid Ryan to resign for "undermining our union" following the recent passing of a resolution to boycott Israeli academic institutions in light of the attack on Gaza. The letter states the motion violates academic freedom and that "the current leadership has overreached its mandate, recklessly and irresponsibly dabbling in complex international politics." Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has also asked that Ryan resign. Meanwhile, the federal Liberal party has condemned the motion. CUPE 3902 News | National Post | Liberal News Release
