uVic students claim police were rough in breaking up on-campus party

April 6, 2009

Several University of Victoria students say Saanich police officers used excessive force when breaking up a rowdy, booze-fuelled party involving 10 young men on campus Friday night. One student was allegedly thrown to the ground, another reportedly kicked in the chest, and a third claimed to have been slammed against a brick wall. A cellphone video shows an officer punching a young man. 3 people were arrested for being drunk in a public place. A police spokesman says none of the students reported any injuries as a result of the melee, and no one has filed a complaint. Victoria Times-Colonist
