uWindsor president agrees, police overreacted

April 15, 2008

Dr. Ross Paul, president of the University of Windsor, wrote a formal letter of complaint to the Windsor Police Service on April 10th.  On January 20, an on-campus event attended by mostly black students was broken up by more than 24 police officers and a police dog.  Several students were arrested and released without charges.  In March, a student group, SAABR, called for an official investigation into the police action.  The student group now feels "validated" by the president's letter, which acknowledges that the police overreacted, and that racial profiling may have been the cause.  Maclean's On Campus | SAABR media release
