York email addresses blocked as spam by MSN Hotmail

Recently, York University has been the victim of a series of attacks by spammers attempting to gain access to York email accounts. The attackers present themselves as University email administrators, and ask members of the York community to provide their password information.  Accounts that are successfully hacked are then used to send spam messages. Although York has quickly disabled these compromised accounts, the outgoing spam has caused several major email services, such as MSN Hotmail, to temporarily block email from any York address. This is the first Canadian campus to suffer from a scam that has hit more than 80 schools in the USYork Y-File
