Canada announces over $45M for college research partnerships, innovation
The Government of Canada has announced that it is investing $45M into 94 college research partnerships. The funds will enable colleges and companies to provide local students with training and employment opportunities, grow the local and regional economies, and address challenges that affect Canadians. “Partnerships between business and industry and colleges and polytechnics play an essential role in enabling Canada to compete successfully in the global economy,” said Canada Foundation for Innovation President Roseann O’Reilly Runte. “The Canada Foundation for Innovation is proud to support these excellent initiatives through the College-Industry Innovation Fund.”
Carleton launches energy efficiency think-tank
Carleton University has launched Efficiency Canada, a national organization designed to bring researchers, businesses, utilities, and government into dialogue as they advocate for sustainable energy use. “We’re not a typical industry association,” said Corey Diamond, Executive Director of Efficiency Canada. “We’re a hybrid of research and advocacy, rooted in the independence of a university.” According to a Carleton release, the organization will be housed in Carleton’s soon-to-be-finished ARISE building, but has already gotten to work.
UWaterloo signs MOU with Hong Kong Polytechnic University
The University of Waterloo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hong Kong Polytechnic University. A UWaterloo release states that the MOU will foster research collaborations and potential connections in entrepreneurship. “It is exciting to partner with exceptional institutions like PolyU and we cannot wait to expand on an already fruitful relationship through more international exchanges, joint programmes, research projects and more,” said UWaterloo President Feridun Hamdullahpur. UWaterloo adds that the MOU will also help advance the Centre for Ocular Research and Development, which will operate under the umbrella of the Waterloo Biomedical Research and Innovation Node in Hong Kong.
