Article on antisemitism at U of T Temerty raises calls for independent inquiry

A paper published by Dr Ayelet Kuper about antisemitism at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine has raised calls for an independent inquiry. Kuper’s reflection, published in the Canadian Medical Education Journal, discusses experiences of antisemitism at the faculty, issues with antisemitism being ignored in the curricula, and the administration’s failure to deal with the concerns. “My goal is to call attention to a growing social justice issue that is larger than any individuals,” stated Kuper in the article. “Antisemitism has been reported to be a problem at many other Canadian higher education institutions, and I anticipate that my experiences and analysis may resonate.” The reflection has prompted a call for an immediate inquiry and action plan from the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC). A faculty spokesperson told the Toronto Star that the school is deeply disturbed by the reports of renewed antisemitic events and that it “condemns in the strongest possible terms the use of demeaning language.” Toronto Star| Toronto Sun| CMEJ| CBC Note: Archived stories may contain dead links or be missing source links.
